Happy Holiday From the ADHDA

Thu, Dec 16, 2010

The 2010 Christmas kick-off event on Saturday, November 27 has officially been declared a success. We had a great turnout at the Liberty Theater for pictures with Santa, the movie, the downtown lighting ceremony, and for the late night shopping downtown. Rosemary Baker-Monaghan from the Liberty Theater estimates that there were over 500 people in the theater to watch the free holiday movie, Polar Express. And thanks to your generosity we were able to donate 479 pounds of perishable food and $5 to CCA Regional Food Bank.

Thank you to the Liberty Theater for hosting the event; Santa and Mrs. Claus for bringing the wonderful holiday cheer; and to the North Coast Choral, the Astor Street Opry Company “Scrooge” choir, and the Lucia court for the festive music. A special thank you goes out to all of the businesses that stayed open late on Saturday, November 27 for the late night “moonlight” shopping!

Downtown Astoria is really “sparkling” this holiday season thanks to the help and support of the community. Individual businesses went above and beyond to decorate their storefront windows and help make Astoria really “sparkle”. The window decorating contest was a very close race; we had some great decorations. Although the judges had a tough decision, ADHDA is happy to announce the winners; congratulations to Paramount Drug Co. and NW Lending Group. Paramount Drug Co. was the winner for the official judging and NW Lending Group won the people’s choice. Thank you to T. Paul’s Supper Club and Urban Café for donating gift certificates to present to our winners.

Happy Holidays from ADHDA and remember to shop local, it matters!

Sponsors for the event were ADHDA, The Liberty Theater, Wauna Federal Credit Union, Astoria Parks and Rec., Whole Brain Creative, Purple Cow Toys, Old Town Framing, Patricia A. Saunders, T. Paul’s Urban Café and Supper Club, Astoria Sunday Market, Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce, Historic Holidays, the Astor Street Opry Company, Baked Alaska, and the City of Astoria.
