Downtown Astoria "Sparkles"

Mon, Nov 21, 2011

There’s no place like “home” for the holidays! And the Astoria Downtown Historic District Association (ADHDA) wants to show you just how true that is!

The 2011 magical sparkle season is about to begin, and to show you just how shiny it can all be ADHDA is pleased to announce the return of the “Downtown Astoria Sparkles” celebration on Saturday, November 26.

This holiday kick-off event features two free holiday movies, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Charlie Brown’s Christmas, at the Liberty Theater from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. These movies are sure to bring back all your family memories. Entrance fee is a food donation to the CCA Regional Food Bank. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 3 p.m.

Santa Claus will also be in front of the Liberty Theater from 3 to 5 p.m. to hear all of your holiday wishes, so bring your camera!
After the movies let out, stick around in front of the Liberty Theatre for the big holiday “sparkle” kick-off as downtown “lights up” to celebrate this joyful season of family, love and giving! The lighting ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. with new surprises and fantastical caroling from the North Coast Choral and the Astor Street Opry Company (ASOC) Scrooged Angel Choir.

Following this grand lighting ceremony, many of our downtown business will be staying open until 8 p.m. for some moonlight shopping. This late night shopping event will offer the perfect opportunity to “Discover Astoria” and find your best holiday gifts ever and, while you shop, enter for a chance to win your own gifts. Pick up your “passport” at participating downtown merchants. On every stop of your journey you get another chance to win one of the many fabulous prizes! Complete your “Discover Astoria” passport by visiting all participating merchants and you’ll be eligible to win the Grand Prize which includes an overnight stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel. The “Discover Astoria” program runs until December 24. Winners will be announced by January 1. Check the ADHDA Facebook page for a listing of participating businesses.

Stay close to your home and heart this holiday season and come see for yourself why shopping, playing and sparkling in downtown Astoria is the best place to make all your wishes come true!
