Downtown Astoria "Sparkles" for the Holiday Season

An event to kick-off your family’s holiday spirit with movies, caroling, shopping and more


There’s no place like “home” for the holidays! And the Astoria Downtown Historic District Association (ADHDA) wants to show you just how true that is!  The ADHDA is pleased to announce the return of the “Downtown Astoria Sparkles” holiday kick-off celebration on Saturday, November 24.  This event features two movies to get any scrooge into the holiday spirit, a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, lighting ceremony with caroling and the start of the Astoria Sparkling Deals shopping event.  Additionally, this shop local event coincides with the nationally recognized, Small Business Saturday, shopping event.

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS – Saturday, November 24, 2012

3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Liberty Theater

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be at the Liberty Theater to hear all of your holiday wishes.  Bring your camera!

Back to back showing of two kid-friendly movies:

Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too

Winnie the Pooh and his friends from the 100-acre wood embark on an adventure to deliver their wish-list to Santa and learn along the way what Christmas is really about.

Frosty the Snowman

In the classic tale, Frosty is brought to life when the children who build him in a schoolyard place a magician’s hat on his head.

Suggested donation of canned goods for the CCA Regional Food Bank for entry. 

All children must be accompanied by an adult.  Doors open at 2:30 PM.

Celebrate this joyful season with special guests Mayor Willis van Dusen, Senator Betsy Johnson and carolers from the North Coast Chorale and Scrooged in Astoria’s Angel Choir.

Small Business Saturday

 

November 24th marks the third annual Small Business Saturday, a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. Small Business Saturday (SBS) was created in 2010 in response to small business owners' most pressing need: more customers.  American Express OPEN, the company’s small business unit, declared the Saturday after Thanksgiving to be Small Business Saturday and have been joined by more than 200 organizations in this national effort.  Learn more at www.smallbusinesssaturday.com.
