Record breaking year for the 5th Annual Jane Barnes Revue!

Astoria, OR – The Astoria Downtown Historic District Association’s (ADHDA) "Jane Barnes Revue" was a show stopping success in its fifth year.

This year’s topsy-turvy fashion show on March 28 featured some of Astoria's finest men donning big wigs and beautiful dresses to cavort down a 24-foot catwalk at the Astoria Event Center.  The 2015 Jane Barnes Revue attracted an audience of 190 and raised $14,000 to support ADHDA in its mission to encourage community involvement and investment in preserving the character of historic downtown Astoria while promoting its health and future.

Originally meant to celebrate Jane Barnes, the first European woman of Astoria, as part Astoria’s bicentennial celebrations in 2011, the Jane Barnes Revue has become a delightful and hilarious evening of “Gentlemen Janes” divulging their feminine side while raising money for a great organization.

With the addition of a live auction last year, the Jane Barnes Revue has transformed into ADHDA’s second largest fundraiser, after the Pacific Northwest Brew Cup.  The success of the 2015 event was made possible by the outpouring of support from our local community sponsors, including title sponsor Holly McHone Jewelers and event sponsors Astoria Coffeehouse and Bistro, Baked Alaska, Buoy Beer Co., Columbia Memorial Hospital, Fort George Brewery, North Coast Distilling, North Coast Food Web, Vintage Hardware, Van Dusen Beverages, Salon Verve, Malama Day Spa , T.Paul’s Supper Club and the “Gentlemen Janes”, local men who make the event successful with their silliness.

ADHDA strives to encourage community involvement; working with the City of Astoria, partnering organizations, and a community of volunteers, particularly the 45 volunteers who give monthly as members of the Board of Directors and the four committees, and who collectively gave more than 4,500 hours to ADHDA last year, continue to work and partner together to enhance and strengthen our downtown area.

A vibrant downtown Astoria is key to building our regional economy. Each upgrade we make, and every special event we hold, enhances the health of our town and the surrounding area.  ADHDA’s fundraising events, offbeat with an unconventional focus on the ‘fun’ in fundraising, is part of what has always made Astoria a remarkable place to live. Jane Barnes is just one event that allows this volunteer-driven organization to focus on the bigger picture of downtown and the community.

You may have seen ADHDA volunteers throughout the year preparing our town for the summer at the annual downtown clean-up, decorating for the holidays by putting up witches in the fall or assisting the Christmas Club in decorating for the holidays. Or perhaps you have attended a 2nd Saturday Art Walk, the Pacific Northwest Brew Cup, or noticed the new street signs downtown that are a result of ADHDA’s collaboration with ODOT and the City of Astoria.

We invite you to join us in giving to this valuable organization. Membership in the ADHDA is open to individuals and businesses—regardless of location. If you are interested in participating and supporting the growing energy in ADHDA’s efforts to enhance our historic downtown please contact Alana Garner at 503-791-7940 or Alana@astoriadowntown.com.
