Meet photographer Chris Villiers during Astoria's Second Saturday Artwalk from 4–7 pm. Astoria Visual Arts presents “I Am a Human Being,” an exhibition of documentary photography by Portland artist Tonita Cervantes. Drawing from several bodies of work, the exhibition bears witness to communities and experiences too often overlooked, exploring resilience, injustice, dignity, and the shared humanity that connects people across cultures. Cervantes’ photographs document blindness and vision care in India, Ethiopia, and Nepal; daily life in Cuba amid severe US sanctions; veterans and people experiencing homelessness; the George Floyd protests; and the Indigenous-led resistance at Standing Rock. Through these powerful images, she invites viewers to look beyond circumstance and recognize the courage, belonging, hope, and humanity present in every life. Meet Tonita from 5:00 - 8:00pm.

Four artists working across glass, steel, wood, and found objects explore relationships between forms and objects that define their individual states of being present. Jeremy Furnish transforms found and discarded objects into sculptural assemblages that create layered narratives revealing new meaning in the overlooked. Bill Atwood combines glass and steel in elegant contemporary sculptures that explore the interplay of strength and fragility. Travis Malone Martin creates wood and steel sculptures that respond to the natural character of wood, allowing grain and form to guide the creative process. Annie Eskelin's latest work includes intertwined steel forms that express the interconnected relationships. Celebrating our 14th anniversary, we are honored to be hosting two solo exhibitions during the month of August. In our South Gallery we welcome back the inimitable Tom Cramer with his latest series, BOLD, comprised of complex, color saturated oil paintings on canvas and wood burned oil paintings on panel. Cramer has been at the epicenter of the Portland art scene for decades as an exhibiting artist as well as creating public art. He is known to utilize almost anything as his canvas, including buildings, cars, and stage sets. This series, BOLD is a fresh and playful abstract series exuding contagious and uplifting energy of the enigmatic Tom Cramer, both in his paintings and his personality. In our Front Gallery we are excited to host a solo exhibition for Portland visual artist and filmmaker Arnold Pander. For his first show at Imogen, he brings a new series of watercolor paintings as well as oil paintings titled Distance. Within this series he’s primarily exploring the mystical beauty of light and water through abstract seascapes, focusing on mood and design. Pander, who grew up in a family of artists, has been working professionally for over 3 decades. Both Tom and Arnold will be at the gallery and available to answer questions about their work, during Artwalk 5 – 8 pm.

The summer days of August remind Jadene of her 60 plus years of living in various southwestern locales. She presents two paintings, "Young Joshua Tree" and "Desert Wash." Come browse through more of her originals. Prints of past work are also available. Open Noon to 6:30 pm.

For the fourth year, LightBox Photographic Gallery and Analog Forever Magazine have forged a partnership to produce the Analog Forever Gallery Exhibition. Every piece of work featured in this exhibit includes an analog element of photographic means. Time Capsule: A Few Moments in Cuba features work from the ten days artist Jody Miller spent exploring a small bit of Cuba, including Havana, Cienfuegos and Trinidad. Jody not only captured the visual treats of Cuba in the many colors and sights of this great country; but also made a connection through her camera to the warm and welcoming people of Cuba. GO Gallery owner Gail Owen honors the legacy of the late Donna Guardino, while embracing new possibilities. In the Company of Women presents atmospheric, narrative oil paintings by Kathy Tilley. Through a series of dreamlike tableaux, she employs enigmatic female figures to allude to stories and relationships inspired by her upbringing in close-knit fishing communities in Washington and Alaska. Tilley’s paintings are filled with intrigue and nostalgic allure, a tribute to the connections seated in memory that thread through our lives. In Mementos of Europe, Robert Gamblin, founder of Gamblin Artists Colors, celebrates his two passions: oil painting and exploring Europe. While visiting historic sites over many years, he made at least one drawing each day on location. Back in his studio, he has translated a select few of these studies into oil paintings, guided by the interplay of memory and marks on paper. Gamblin’s palette changes with each painting as he employs color to convey his emotional response to place, and to evoke beauty, mystery, and layers of history. Meet the artists at the evening reception from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with tunes by music by Kit Garoutte and Ann Fleming and complimentary refreshments.

"Life's a Parade" is a compilation of work by Angela Raines created 2013-2026 capturing the fleeting moments of joy we experience in our lives with bittersweet acceptance that they can't last forever. Focusing on the quiet moments in not so quiet things like parades and circuses, we look past the crowds and see the small things between the noise. Then we are able to see with more depth and gratitude when the noise starts up again. Open 3-9 pm

Anchored in powerful contrasts, Luminous Coast is an evocative collection of studio and en plein air paintings by Sarah Polenick. These collector-sized works explore rugged maritime energy, iconic coastal geography, and quiet moments of natural beauty. Far from just capturing the scenery, this exhibition utilizes the rich, glowing depths of oil paint to illuminate a deeper theme: the enduring presence of hope. Sarah Hammond, Emerging Phoenix Studios, presents a deeply personal collection from 11am to 6pm at Menagerie Co-Op. Each painting explores the relationship between memory and emotion. As a stroke survivor, Sarah's fluid painting style represents memories as they shift, soften, and fade over time.

This collection is surreal art of 6 out of the 12 Astrological Signs. The Lost Stars highlights each Sign in digital collage and surreal imagery, celebrating their differences and strengths. Each one is paired with a tarot card, based on associations, also made in surreal digital collage. Each card and each Sign bridge dreams and reality to make new connections. Created out of old myths and old images, every Sign and card correspond to create new stories from the old.

Local Artist & founder of Salty Raven Seasons Kaz Sparks will be live painting throughout the day & evening & on-site to sign books; answer questions; & generally share her art. \"My art mission is to bring the positive energy & transformative power of nature & the Oregon Coast into the daily lives of others through my artwork; writing; & photography. I use my creativity to create functional; premium; Seriously Cool Goods for everyday life.\"

Working primarily in metal, Graham Schodda freehand draws the images of fish, birds, and feathers onto stainless steel with an angle grinder, using a technique he’s honed over 25 years as a metal artist. The final result is a smooth to the touch, holographic image. As in their natural habitat, the fish seem disguised in a watery medium – fading and reappearing as the light or viewing angle changes.
